Race for Governor Evidences Differences

As the 2006 Governor's Race heats up, the differences between Republican Asa Hutchinson and Democrat Mike Bebee couldn't be more clear. Recent news evidences clear contrasts emerging:
Tax Reform - Bebee has a long record of raising taxes on working Arkansans, while Asa's record proves he is committed to lowering your taxes, including getting rid of the sales tax on groceries. (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, July 23)
Gay Foster Parenting - As Governor, Asa will take action to ban gay foster parenting in Arkansas, while Bebee privately promised gay activists he would fight such a ban but denied it when the media found out. His story has been changing ever since. (Arkansas Times, July 20)
Illegal Immigration - Asa's laid out a four-point plant to give the state a stronger role in fighting illegal immigration in Arkansas, while Bebee has said that it's a federal responsibility only and the state should not act. (Morning News of Northwest Arkansas, June 23)
Protecting The Sanctity of Life - Asa's pro-life and has stated that he believes the Roe V. Wade decision should be overturned. Bebee believes exactly the opposite. (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, July 16)
Summary - Asa has clear positions and commitments on issue after issue, while his opponent has dodged, weaved and flip-flopped repeatedly. Arkansas deserves leadership it can trust .

Senate Democrat Leaders are Two Faced Liars

Fourteen Democrats voted along with 51 Republicans to pass the Child Custody Protection Act (S-403) by a margin of 65-34. Even Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) voted for the act which would prohibit unrelated adults from taking underage girls across state lines to have an abortion. Just minutes after the passage (S-403), the Democrat leadership, which is bought and paid for by the abortion industry, moved to kill the bill by refusing to appoint conferees. This step is required because the Senate bill differs from the version passed by the House by even a greater margin of victory. The Senate and House conferees would have worked out the differences and the bill would have gone to the President to sign. Many two faced liberal Democrat Senators up for election this year voted for the bill because 80 percent of the public favor it. Pledge Protection Act

On July 19th the House passed Congressman Todd Akin's Pledge Protection Act by a wide margin. The final vote was 260 to 167. In all, 39 Democrats voted with 221 Republicans to pass the Pledge Protection Act. The PPA passed the House by 14 votes more than it did two years ago. However, two years ago there was no action in the Senate. To finally protect "under God" in the Pledge we must pass the Pledge Protection Act in the Senate this year. House Passes "Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act."

Law-abiding gun owners won another major victory this week when the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass HR 5013, the "Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act." This legislation, sponsored by Representative Bobby Jindal (R-La.), will amend federal emergency laws to prohibit federal, state, and local authorities from confiscating lawfully-owned firearms during emergencies or disasters. HR 5013 passed by a broad bi-partisan margin of 322-99.

This is the second win on this issue in less than two weeks. On July 13, Senator David Vitter's (R-La.) amendment to prohibit the use of funds appropriated under the Homeland Security appropriations bill (H.R. 5441) for the confiscation of lawfully possessed firearms during an emergency or major disaster, passed the United States Senate with a final vote of 84-16. N.J. town cracks down on illegal aliens

GOPUSA - A New Jersey town has voted to punish employers who hire illegal immigrants and landlords who rent to them.The Riverside council approved the ordinance unanimously at an often raucous meeting attended by 700 people, the Courier-Post reported. What's happening in Arkansas?

Public Expressions of Religion Protection Act

Last week, Senator Brownback introduced the ?Public Expressions of Religion Protection Act? (S. 3696) in the Senate. Senator Brownback will chair a Constitution Subcommittee hearing on this bill next Wednesday (August 2) at 2:30pm in Dirksen 226.

Referenced is an an article related to the Great Falls, SC case that discusses the bully tactics (often by the ACLU) that the bill is intended to combat: ?At the council meeting last Monday, members forgot to say the prayer. Maybe their minds were on the $65,490 in legal fees Great Falls owes Wynne's lawyer. This is a back-breaking sum for the one-stoplight town of about 2,300, which has seen its population plummet since the last of its three mills closed in 1984. The fees amount to more than a quarter of the town's annual administrative budget. Also Monday, Wynne addressed the council and reminded its members that her lawyer would have waived all legal fees if the council had agreed to stop giving Christian prayers and not pursue its appeal to the 4th Circuit.? Report Card - AR Dems No Longer ProLife

The NRTL Report Card 7/27/06 refelcts that the Arkansas Democratic US Congressional Representatives and US Senators failed to support Arkansans' pro-life conservative values. In the House, on nine critical issues, only John Boozman (R) voted 100% to support his constituents viewpoints. Vic Snider (D) was worst voting only 44% of the time to reflect the majority of Arkansas; Mike Ross (D): 56% and Marion Berry (D): 78%. In the Senate on two critical issues, Blanch Lincoln (D) and Mark Pryor (D) are 0% in supporting and reflecting their constituents values (they even voted to to fund overseas abortion clinics).

Senate Dems Throws Up Roadblock

This Sunday, July 30, is the 50th anniversary of the day President Eisenhower signed into law "In God We Trust" as our national motto. The Senate passed S.Con.Res.96 unanimously earlier this month to commemorate, celebrate, and reaffirm this motto.

Washington State Supreme Court rules on gay marriage

OLYMPIA -- The Washington Supreme Court has upheld the state ban on gay marriage. In the 5-4 decision, the court says state lawmakers have the power to restrict marriage to heterosexual couples. The court says the Washington Defense of Marriage Act is constitutional. It defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The law was challenged by 19 gay and lesbian couples. Two years ago King and Thurston county judges found the ban unconstitutional. Lawyers for gay couples said it violates the state Equal Rights Amendment and grants marriage privileges to one group, but not another. Lawyers for the state say Washington has an interest in regulating relationships that produce children. Today's decision leaves Massachusetts as the only state to allow homosexual couples to wed. Forty-five states ban gay marriage.
