The Internet Revolution is a Liberty Revolution

With Congress not re-convening until November 13th after the 2012 elections and with the Rep. Paul's retirement from public office, this may be his last article as a sitting congressman. We wish him well in his retirement from public office and thank him for his commitment to promoting liberty and freedom.

Rep. Ron Paul
Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX-14): Until the late 1990s, individuals interested in Austrian economics, U.S. constitutional history, and libertarian philosophy had few sources of information. They had to spend hours scouring used book stores or the back pages of obscure libertarian periodicals to find the great works of Mises, Rothbard, Hayek, and other giants of liberty. Local library and university collections ignored libertarian politics and economics.

Today, however, the greatest classics of libertarian thought, libertarian philosophy, and libertarian economics are available instantly to anyone with internet access. Thanks to the internet, it is easier than ever before for liberty activists to spread news and other information regarding the evils of government power and the benefits of freedom. For the first time in human history, supporters of liberty around the world can share information across borders quickly and cheaply. Without the filter of government censors, this information emboldens millions to question governments and promote liberty.

This is why liberty-minded Americans must do everything possible to oppose-- and stop-- government attempts to censor or limit the free flow of information online.

One such attempt is known as “CISPA”, or the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. This bill will create a monstrous coalition of big business and big government to rob Americans of their protections under the 4th Amendment of the Constitution.

CISPA permits both the federal government and private companies to view your private online communications with no judicial oversight, provided they merely do so in the name of “cybersecurity.” But America is a constitutional republic, not a surveillance state -- and the wildly overhyped need for security does not trump the Constitution.

“Cybersecurity” is the responsibility of companies that operate and make money in cyberspace, not taxpayers. Those companies should develop market-based private solutions to secure their networks, servers, cloud data centers, and user/customer information. The role of the US intelligence community is to protect the United States from military threats, not to provide corporate welfare to the private sector. Much like the TSA at the airport, CISPA would socialize security costs and remove market incentives for private firms to protect their own investments.

Imagine security-cleared agents embedded at private companies to serve as conduits for intelligence information about their customers back to the US intelligence community-- while enjoying immunity from any existing civil or criminal laws. Imagine Google or Facebook reporting directly to the National Security Agency about the online activity of US citizens. Imagine US government resources being wasted on a grand scale to “assist” private companies in the global market. All of this would become reality under CISPA.

As of this writing, it appears that the House and Senate will not agree on a final version of CISPA this year. However, the Obama administration seems ready to impose provisions of this bill by executive order if Congress does not act soon.

The past five years have seen an explosion in the liberty movement, fueled in large part by the internet. Preserving that freedom is crucial if the liberty movement is to continue its progress. Therefore, all activists in the liberty movement have a stake in the battle for internet freedom. We must be ready to come together to fight any attempt to increase government’s power over the internet, regardless of the supposed justifications. We must resist voices from both the political right and left which alternatively seek to legislate morality or enforce political correctness with force. Copyright protection, pornography, cyberterrorism, gambling, and “hate speech” are merely excuses for doing what all governments have done throughout human history: increase their size, scope, and power.

Once we understand this, we understand the critical link between internet freedom and human freedom.

Obama Joins Senate Dems Threatening To Plunge America Over The Fiscal Cliff . . .

. . .  Unless The Democrats Get Massive Tax Hikes!!

Last week, The Washington Post reported, “President Obama is prepared to veto legislation to block year-end tax hikes and spending cuts, collectively known as the ‘fiscal cliff,’ unless Republicans bow to his demand to raise tax rates for the wealthy, administration officials said. Freed from the political and economic constraints that have tied his hands in the past, Obama is ready to play hardball with Republicans, who have so far successfully resisted a deal to tame the debt that includes higher taxes, Obama’s allies say.”

The Post notes, “[Obama’s] veto threat challenges Republicans to a dangerous game of chicken over a fiscal event that would raise taxes for nearly 90 percent of households, slice deeply into military and domestic budgets, and probably spark a brief recession. House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and other Republican leaders are already complaining about the president’s “'Thelma and Louise’ economic strategy” (In the 1991 film, the lead characters drive off a cliff in a 1966 Thunderbird convertible rather than surrender to police.)”

Indeed, the president is joining Senate Democrats in threatening to plunge the country off the fiscal cliff in January unless they get tax hikes. Back in 2010, when President Obama actually signed of an extension of these tax rates he now thinks are unacceptable, he said raising taxes then “would have been a blow to our economy just as we're climbing out of a devastating recession.” But economic growth continues to be weak. Now is not the time to raise taxes.

Yet Democrats are so insistent on tax increases, they’re willing to hold the economy hostage to get them. President Obama is just the latest example. Over the summer, Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) suggested Democrats were “willing to risk racing over the fiscal cliff and into financial chaos in 2013,” and just a couple weeks ago, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) also demanded tax increases, making a deal to avert the fiscal cliff more difficult.

As Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said, “Senior Democrats are now openly acknowledging their plan to hold the economy hostage to massive, job-killing tax hikes, and espousing the fiscally irresponsible view that says the country should be driven off the fiscal cliff rather than Congress working toward bipartisan solutions to reform and strengthen entitlements without killing jobs. . . . The House Speaker and I have called for extending all the income tax rates for a year, ensuring that no one sees an income tax hike in January and preventing the economic harm and massive job loss that will come if Sen. Schumer and Washington Democrats follow through on their threats to drive us off the fiscal cliff.”

Public Notice's Economic Snapshot:
Current Deficit: $-75,020 billion (surplus)
Current National Debt: $16.19 trillion
Debt Per Household: $141,751
Debt Per Individual: $51,471
Unemployment Rate: 7.8%

Public Notice has released a new poll today showing that an overwhelming majority of Americans believe the national debt has a direct impact upon their personal finances.

ARRA News Service Endorses Mitt Romney

Dr. Bill Smith, Editor: People have asked, "Does the Arkansas Republican Assembly endorses Mitt Romney, and do you as editor of the ARRA News Service endorse  Mitt Romney?"

First, the Arkansas Republican Assembly endorsed Mitt Romney on January 30, 2008. It has never withdrawn its endorsement.  While supporting the eventual 2008 nominee of the Republican Party, the ARRA did not endorse John McCain.  However, they did like his eventual VP selection, Sarah Palin.

Mitt Romney was seen then and continues to be seen by Arkansas Republican Assembly members as the best candidate for president.

While the ARRA News Service is an outreach of the Arkansas Republican Assembly.   It operated independently and all content approval rests with the editor. We will continue to uphold the rights granted by God & guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, traditional family values, "republican" principles / ideals, transparent and limited government, free markets, liberty and individual freedom.

Based on our stated beliefs, we continue to oppose the current incumbent as president.  His beliefs, actions and results have proven to be both anathema and devastating to America and its citizens. We can only forecast even greater loss of freedom and liberty and economic bankruptcy under an second term Obama administration.

In fairness, during the 2012 primaries, we reported on all Republican candidates and did not publicly support Mitt Romney until Romney had statistically accumulated the number of delegates needed to be nominated as the Republican nominee for President.

Now, in answer to the second part of the question, both as editor and personally, I endorse Mitt Romney. I was very pleased with Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as candidate for Vice President. The Romney-Ryan ticket offers America the best opportunity for economic recovery and a roll back of actions by Federal agencies that restrict or seek to restrict the freedom and liberty of legal citizens of the United States.

The ARRA News Service endorses and supports Mitt Romney for President and Paul Ryan for Vice President.

Defense Budget Cuts Gamble with National Security

Michael Sandoval, Heritage Investigates: The third and final presidential debate between President Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney will feature several different questions on the role of America abroad and other aspects of foreign policy. Obama and Romney will likely address the nation’s impending spending crisis and automatic defense budget cuts, known as sequestration.

Heritage senior research fellow Steven Bucci and research associate Emily Goff illustrate the disproportionate effect that sequestration will have on defense spending compared to entitlement programs. The $492 billion in automatic defense cuts from 2013-2021 would represent 42.6 percent of the overall cuts, more than three times the impact on entitlements:

The effect of the cuts would be drastic, according to Bucci and Goff:
The gaping hole in defense funding would deteriorate our military’s readiness. Indeed, the threat of sequestration is already adversely affecting America’s ability to respond to growing threats. These cuts would leave the U.S. with its smallest Army since World War II, its smallest Navy since World War I, and its smallest Air Force ever—and this at a time when the world is not growing safer but more dangerous every day. (Russia, China, Iran, and resurgent Islamist terrorists are just a few of the threats.)
Prioritizing within the budget, say the authors, will assist in “directing the government’s fiscal resources where they are needed and spending within our means.”
“Sequestration,” they said, “accomplishes neither.”

As Bucci and Goff point out, cutting defense spending will not provide for the desired effects of reining in the budget:
Gutting the nation’s defense capabilities, however, is not the responsible way to budget or achieve budget savings. Even eliminating defense completely wouldn’t balance the budget, because entitlement program spending would continue to soar.
The entitlement programs — Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security — are projected to double as a percentage of the nation’s economy by 2050.

Bucci, along with Alison Acosta Fraser, director of the Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, argue that fixing defense sequestration is possible without tax increases, and to do otherwise would be “gambling with national security.”

Wrong Way Down On a One-Way-Street - Part 5: The Conclusion

From the heart of the The Ozarks, the following letter to the editor is by aka "Buck Angler." Buck is a mainstream, voting, middle class, God-fearing citizen concerned about America. This letter is from his reflections titled: Wrong Way Down On a One-Way-Street. Buck  will be sharing in the ARRA News Service more of his reflections via a series of open letters.

By Buck Angler: My continued personal observations! This is the final in the series.  Thank you for reading my observations and opinions.

Character and Values --Who do you believe will represent your ideals?
Next, let’s discuss character representation and family values. If you followed the Republican Convention, you would have gotten somewhat acquainted with Governor Romney’s and Paul Ryan’s families. To me, they truly represent families with wholesome traditional values and endear ambitions like the pursuit of the American dream and being the best that you can be…the kind of families most people would be comfortable with within their presence. To me they were inspirational. In general, the Obama family portray a respectable family unit. The big difference that I see when contrasted to the Romney and Ryan families is President and Mrs Obama's past association with people of tainted character. People who are opposed to the American way of life and made it clear that they did NOT like America. Also, the Obamas continue to rely heavily on rubbing shoulders with Hollywood celebrities and TV talk show hosts. Many of their fundraisers are in Hollywood and with other entertainment personalities. I personally don’t believe that mainstream Hollywood represents mainstream society or mainstream values. RESEARCH, RELATE, AND THINK

WRONG WAY: The subtle enemy!
I can’t neglect “liberalism” and its implications. My interpretation of liberalism is that people do their "own thing" with little or no restraints and without regard, consideration, and respect for the dignity and rights of others. Instead of consequences for poor judgment and bad behavior, their is pursuit of concessions in order to hopefully dodge conflict or to support a personal agenda. Unrestricted abortion and the proliferation of pornography are good examples of this philosophy.

From my career and experience as a public school teacher, liberalism doesn’t work in the classroom; it doesn’t work at home; it doesn’t work for society in general; and it doesn’t work in dealing with rouge nations and foreign affairs. Apparently, Obama thinks it does! RESEARCH, RELATE, AND THINK

WRONG WAY: Have you considered the consequences of an Obama re-election?
Likely outcomes if Obama is re-elected: First, many liberal federal judges and Supreme Court justices will be appointed. They have the ultimate power to influence our legal system and interpret the Constitution to fit their philosophies. They are almost impossible to remove from office since they are appointed—not elected.

Second, Obama-Care will be fully implemented by 2014; un-doing it will probably be cost prohibitive.

Third, there is a good chance that our 2nd Amendment rights (right to bear arms) will be in jeopardy. President Obama and Secretary of Clinton both support a UN ban on gun ownership.

Fourth, the Protection of Marriage Amendment will be ignored or declared unconstitutional. We will probably have a new amendment promoting and protecting gay marriage—there are bills relating to this issue pending in both houses of Congress right now. Christian values will be rebuked and subject to criticism.

Fifth, our borders will not be secured. It will be worse than the current situation. The united States will be flooded with more illegals than imaginable. States will have their hands tied by the Administration’s Dept. of Justice regarding border control.

Sixth, our leadership will still be making excuses for terrorists destroying public property and killing innocent U.S. citizens. Our military will be trimmed significantly and nuclear-anti-missiles will be vastly reduced to the point that we will be highly vulnerable to a major nuclear and non-nuclear attacks.

Seventh, we will probably have even more people on public assistance and other entitlements; this segment of our society will surely secure more future support for liberal politicians—mainly Democrats progressive liberals. RESEARCH, RELATE, AND THINK

WRONG WAY: Is the economy all that needs “resurrection”?
Is our biggest downfall in the nation really the economy? There is no doubt that the U.S. economy is still stagnant, anemic, dismal, and getting worse. But, is a manifestation of our main-stream culture rather than just failed monetary and business decisions? It is also a reflection of over-regulation by the current and past administrations.

Do you know who really opened the door for the failed housing market resulting in an incredible increase in foreclosures and bankruptcies the past six years? It wasn’t the Bush administration, although the main-stream media and the current administration probably wouldn’t dare tell you “the whole story”. In the late 90’s there was an executive order initiated relaxing the requirements to get home loans for many people that would have been considered extremely high risk under prior regulations. Now, who was running our country at that time? Bill Clinton!

However, I really think the main downfall in our society and the economy stems from turning our back on the Constitution, our Founding Fathers, and GOD! I believe that GOD is slowly removing his hand of protection over our country because liberal progressives seek to remove the name God, the Bible, and the Ten Commandments from our main-stream culture — especially at all public grounds and institutions.

Do you know anything about the spiritual persuasion of the majority of our Founding Fathers and how their beliefs are reflected in our U.S. Constitution? You see, a lot of the folks who support the life-styles and values contrary to the traditional values of decency, virtue, honor, and patriotism are seeking to neutralize our history and its Christian influence. They do so so as to perpetuate their ideas, philosophies, and progressivism. And, the Democrat Party and “their” liberal media buddies are their “lapdogs.” How much more deterioration of our culture and traditional Christian values will God tolerate before he completely removes his hand from our Nation. If you are a committed atheist, or extremely naïve, I’m sure you are saying “hogwash.” But, to those of you that acknowledge that God as a reality, it might be well for you to reflect on my words. RESEARCH, RELATE, AND THINK

CONCLUDING COMMENT - WRONG WAY ON A ONE-WAY STREET!
Do you really want an “entitlement society”, which seems to be the current direction under the Obama Administration? Or do you prefer a "free society" where you have the opportunity to follow your dreams, set goals, create, and hopefully achieve success? Our country under our Constitution and Bill of Rights enables us the FREEDOM to do those things, plus the freedom to express ourselves! We need to respect and protect these gifts and principles provided by our founding fathers by voting wisely for the best leadership to preserve our rights and defend our country.

Thank you for taking the time to read my rather lengthy opinions shared in the five series of this Open letters to the editor. I appreciate the ARRA News Service for sharing them with its readership. Unfortunately, when someone shares their views on such critical and sensitive issues some recipients will be ruffled, but my ultimate purpose is to inspire patriotism, protect our heritage, and promote the enthusiasm to vote (and to do so wisely).

God Bless! I am Buck Angler and I endorse these opinions.

Chinese Steel for American Bridges

A lot of Americans including Arkansans are surprised to discover that the second largest steel-producing county in North America is in Arkansas.  Mississippi County in Northeast Arkansas is the home of Nucor Steel, which produces more steel annually than all but one plant in all of North America.  But government policies are hitting this Arkansas economic engine hard.  And not just this one.

by Curtis Coleman, Contributing Author: Instead of using expensive iron ore to make steel, Nucor steel in Arkansas’s Mississippi County uses mostly scrap – like crushed cars or old washing machines.  Nucor is the largest recycler in North America and has invested more than $1.5 billion in Arkansas.

So one would think that in our recessionary economy, the U.S. would be anxious to use American steel made by American workers to build American bridges.  But that’s not the case.  From the new Bay Bridge in California to interstate bridges in Texas, Chinese workers using Chinese steel are building America’s bridges.

But Nucor steel is not the only Arkansas industry being slammed by our anti-business administration.  Thomas Maxwell, owner of Maxwell Flooring, describes the damage being done to Arkansas’s devastated timber industry:
“When contractors for the George W. Bush Presidential Library sought bids for hardwood floors, they excluded wood flooring from five-sixths of Arkansas’s sustainable, certified forests because the wood was not recognized by one specific certification system. The same holds true for the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, which utilized bamboo floors manufactured in China.”
These are almost invisible government policies that are destroying both small and large businesses across Arkansas and America.  No wonder Arkansas’s job growth is projected to continue to decline.

Arkansas, and America, can prosper, but we’re going to have to get government out of our faces, off our backs, and out of our pocketbooks.

Akansas: Shell Game on Highways, Obamacare, and Issue One

Bill Smith, Editor: The following article about Arkansas is relevant for residents in all states whose government are or may be seeking backdoor ways to free up money to pay for the cost of implementation of ObamaCare in their state. The article evidences another reason ObamaCare needs to be repealed.

It is disappointing that some Arkansas elected conservative officials have signed on to supporting again another tax increase. The article addresses several related key points.  Also, as this tax being for highways, it is obvious that tax proponents go out of their way  to ignore  the actual users of major highways in Arkansas. It is  not the citizens of Arkansas who are wearing out the major highways; it is the people and businesses crossing Arkansas to get to other states or delivering products to Arkansas. Also, there the fact that Arkansas has in total high progressive taxes when all forms of taxation are added together.  The people do not need another tax on gasoline or diesel which reduces their limited incomes even more.

It is also disturbing that the actions of Arkansas elected officials and bureaucrats have forced major businesses founded and headquartered in Arkansas to register their trucks and trailers in neighboring states. Companies like Wal-Mart International and J.B. Hunt Transport Services have opted to locate and register their trucks and trailers in other states which means less revenue that Arkansas could have been used to maintain and build Arkansas highways.

I was present at an Arkansas Economic Summit, when Mr. J.B Hunt, founder of J.B. Hunt Transport Services, lectured the then Governor and all present about how and why he registered all his trucks in Oklahoma. He made it very clear he would have preferred to register his trucks in his home state if Arkansas would "correct" their registration process and reduce the fees. Today J.B. Hunt Transport Services has grown into one of the largest transportation companies in the United States with annual revenues over $3 billion; employs over 16,000 employees, operates in excess of 12,000 trucks, and has 47,000 trailers and containers in the company's fleet. Where are those trailers and trucks registered? -- NOT in Arkansas.

by Mark Moore, Arkansas Watch: Our state [Arkansas] highway system is broken.   The massive congestion in northwest Arkansas (to name one place) is either evidence that 1) we are not putting enough money into the system, or 2) our system is not putting those dollars in the right places and therefore needs to be changed, or 3) both. Since we are already from 12th to 17th (depending on how you count it) among states in highway miles but 34th among states in our tax base (GDP) to pay for highway miles and 29th in area, I'd say number two is the most likely possibility, with number three the next most likely. The taxpayers of this state have already paid for plenty of highway miles, they just aren't where the cars are. Obviously, our system of allocating highway dollars is broken and ought to be fixed before pouring any more money into the system.

Advocates of the current system have often floated the excuse that the reason for our excess highway miles was a one-time bill that allowed county judges to turn over a dozen miles of county road over to the state. They claim this artificially inflates our state highway numbers. You should be insulted, as I have been, when an advocate for the current good-ole-boy system tries this fun fact on you. Seventy-five counties times twelve miles equals 900 extra miles. This is less than one half of one percent of our total highway miles. If you took those miles off it would not drop us even one spot on the rankings of states by number of highway miles that I linked to above.

Now with ballot issue one, highway commission advocates (as opposed to highway or taxpayer advocates) are asking for a half cent sales tax increase on most items written into our constitution for the next decade. It would of course, be used to fund a bond issue because we could not possibly have a tax increase without the bond dealers and holders getting a piece of the taxpayer action. Betterspendingfirst.org is a group of activists, officeholders, and candidates who have come together to oppose the tax increase on the November ballot.

The thing is, the state already has a standing Blue Ribbon Commission on highway funding, and not even they recommended a tax increase to pay for needed improvements. They advised using existing general revenues to pay for the job. This commission was as bi-partisan (not the same thing as non-partisan I am afraid) as they come. It was chaired by El-Dorado Republicrat John Lowery Jr. Seriously, the guy was chairman of the Republican County Committee before he ran for the state legislature as a Democrat. That ought to give true believers on both sides a bit of pause and some insight on how things really work in this state, but that's another article. The point is, they saw that the state currently had the money. Sales taxes for vehicle sales for example, could very properly have been sent from general revenues to highways. They looked at the numbers and saw that the state could afford it.

But Governor Beebe did not want to do it that way. Apparently Beebe has other plans for what appears to be another surplus in revenues. You may recall that when he got in office he very quickly blew through hundreds of millions of dollars of surplus. Now let's see.....what other big ticket items might the Governor be saving that surplus for? Could it be, Obamacare? Why yes, that would make sense. Governor Mike Beebe disregarded the bipartisan Blue Ribbon Commission's advice to use existing revenues on highways because he wants to spend the money implementing Obamacare in Arkansas. That's a theory that fits perfectly with the facts. There is also a history of state government, even pre-Beebe, demanding more from the taxpayers for something when they had the money for it all along.

Now some of our more gullible readers might protest "but the federal government has promised to pay for all of the expansion of Medicaid for three years and 90% of the cost after that." Sure they have, but Washington has gone mad and the ruling class is delusional. They have no money with which they can pay for these outlandish promises. You should ask a Native American what a Potomac Promise is worth because we are all Amerindians now.

The Democrats in the Legislature would not let SB709 pass. It was a bill that would have forced the state executive to calculate how much it would cost to implement Obamacare in the state before any such implementation could proceed.   Like fish headed for bait, the Democrats rejected the idea of examining what costs might be hidden in this "free money". Lucky for us, the Heritage Foundation has done some rough calculations for all states. The costs of implementing Obamacare vary depending on the degree to which Washington breaks its promises, but even if it keeps them Beebe is going to have to come up with over 140 million extra dollars. The figure is more likely to be over $500 million.

I view this as just another reason to vote against ballot issue one, the sales tax increase. We already have the money for highways within current taxpayer revenues. The Governor and the Blue Ribbon Commission on highways already knows that we have the money, the Governor just wants to spend it on something else. I suspect the biggest part of that something else is implementing Obamacare in Arkansas. So voting "no" on this tax is, in an indirect way, a vote against funding Obamacare in Arkansas.

Want to vote twice for Obama? Sure... go ahead!

By Dr. Bobby Eberle, GOPUSA: In a stunning undercover video, reporters posing as voters questioned Barack Obama's Organizing for America volunteers about being able to vote twice for Obama. Not once were the reporters told that voting twice was against the law and that if the volunteers helped them, they would be breaking the law too. Instead, there was just laughter at the idea of illegally voting twice for Obama. Check it out...

The video was produced by Project Veritas, an organization whose mission is "to investigate and expose corruption, dishonesty, self-dealing, waste, fraud, and other misconduct in both public and private institutions in order to achieve a more ethical and transparent society."

Here's a good summary of the video from Watchdog.org:
A staff person working on the president's re-election campaign helped an undercover journalist register to vote for Barack Obama in Florida despite the reporter's expressed intention to vote twice in the hotly contested presidential race, video reviewed by Watchdog.org shows.

The video, produced by independent journalist James O'Keefe, also shows Democratic activists helping register in New York an undercover reporter who says he's going to vote twice -- in Minnesota and in New York.

But the most arresting footage shows an Organizing for America staffer in the group's Houston office providing a video journalist with an application to request a Florida mail-in ballot, even though the journalist has made it clear she intends also to vote in Texas.
Just take a look at how easy it was to get information on voting in Florida when the reporter specifically stated that she was also going to vote in Texas:

Undercover reporters ask OFA (Organizing for America, President Obama's
Grassroots arm of his re-election campaign) staffers for advice on double voting.
In each circumstance the staffers are complicit in the illegal implications of voting twice.

As noted by New Jersey Assemblyman Declan O'Scanlon, the reporter should have been warned at the potential illegality of her actions.
"It's not a violation until the (second) vote is cast."

"The worker should have said, 'That's illegal, you can only vote in one place. Which is it going to be?'" O'Scanlon said. New Jersey was one of the states where O'Keefe filmed his investigation.
With less than a month to go, this is what America is dealing with Whether it's the media, volunteers, or Barack Obama and his campaign, there are groups who will stop at nothing to ensure Obama's reelection. We must all be watchful of what's going on and let other's know what Organizing for America is all about.

Don’t Let Your Vote Be Canceled by Fraud

Phyllis Schlafly
by Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum: As we approach a major national election, we hear warnings about many kinds of vote fraud and possible recounts that might delay confirmation of who are the victors. We also hear from deniers who insist that vote fraud is a figment of the imagination of Republicans. It isn’t; vote fraud is real.

Many instances of registration fraud schemes were carried out by ACORN, and some members were even tried and convicted. Although ACORN announced it was closing its doors, it reemerged under new names.

It’s common knowledge that there are more registered voters in Philadelphia than there are people living in Philadelphia, because dead and moved-away voters have not been stricken from the list. Similar accusations have been made in a dozen other states.

In Minnesota, we were entertained for weeks with news of the recounting of votes in the 2008 Minnesota election for U.S. Senate. Al Franken was declared the winner by 312 votes out of three million cast.

After all was said and done, Minnesota discovered that 289 convicted felons had voted illegally in Hennepin County, 52 had voted illegally in Ramsey County, and many others voted illegally who were dead or who voted multiple times. That is reason enough for the U.S. Senate to use its constitutional power in Article I, Section 5 to unseat Franken.

In a shocking case this fall, a good-looking Arkansas state legislator, Rep. Hudson Hallum, pled guilty to election fraud by bribing voters to vote their absentee ballots for him. He had applied for and distributed the absentee ballots, and the voters then gave the ballots to him in unsealed envelopes. If they were marked for Hallum’s opponent, they were pitched.

The wide use of absentee and mail-in ballots has destroyed our traditional American secret ballot. This is a major loss of an important American right and an open door to election fraud.

It’s important to know that it’s much easier to prevent vote fraud beforehand than it is to overturn an election suspected of being plagued with fraud. Can individual citizens do something to prevent vote fraud, or can we count on the government to protect us from the cheaters?

There are things you can do right now, before the election. You can volunteer to be a poll watcher, sometimes called poll observers or challengers or checkers, and usually at least one watcher is allowed to be close enough to the election officials to be able to compare the voter’s signature with the verification record.

State laws vary about the rights and duties of poll watchers and how many can be in a polling place. You can get some helpful advice and good instructions by contacting truethevote.org.

Most state legislatures will go into session early next year, and now is the time they are planning the bills they want to pass. At the top of their list should be a photo ID law if they are not among the 17 states that already have such a law. There is no question about the constitutionality of voter ID because the Supreme Court upheld the Indiana voter ID law in 2008.

The left squeals in pain about photo ID laws, claiming they are a conspiracy of Republicans to suppress vote turnout, especially of minority voters. There’s no evidence to support that claim and, in fact, voter turnout has actually increased in Indiana and Georgia where photo ID has been implemented.

A citizen who lacks photo ID can prove identity with other documents. These include a state-issued ID, credit card, utility bill, bank statement, student ID, a government check or paycheck showing the voter’s name and address, birth certificate, or a passport.

Minorities are actually among those most eager to implement photo ID. Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young said, “You cannot be part of the mainstream of American life today without a photo ID.” The sponsor of Rhode Island’s photo ID law was Harold Metts, who is the only African-American in the state senate.

Just think of all the many occasions when we all must show photo ID: when stopped by the police for a traffic violation, to make a credit card purchase, to check in for any medical treatment, to check into a hotel room, or to board an airplane. Isn’t it just as important to assure that only American citizens are allowed to vote, and to prevent non-citizens from canceling out your vote, and to prevent crooks from voting twice or voting in the name of a dead person who is still registered?

When your vote is nullified by illegal votes, you are cheated just as much as if you were denied the right to vote.

They Didn’t Riot Over This Video

Bob Morrison and Ken Blackwell
Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison, Contributing Authors: After nearly a month of cringing and getting lost in their own contradictions, the Obama administration is finally clinging to an elliptical mention by the president of “acts of terror” that he claims won’t deter us from doing whatever we are supposed to do in the Mideast. What was it we were supposed to be doing over there?

Oh, supporting democracy, of course. But democracy in a country where “freedom fighters” roar into town shooting their rifles in the air is going to be hard to achieve. All those celebratory bullets have a nasty way of coming down again. And they can hit local voters as they are lining up to cast their ballots.

Consider the ever-so-discreet caption for a photo of one of our purple-fingered frenzied friends. Against a lurid background of the U.S. Consulate in flames in Benghazi, we see a trim young man in jeans and tee-shirt. He’s holding his rifle menacingly. And Reuters labels him a “protester.” Indeed. He was surely protesting something.

It must have been that nasty U.S.-made video that few even here have seen. As if reading from scripted talking points, speakers from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo to the podium of the UN General Assembly, from the side of Amb. Stevens’s casket to the White House Press Room, have has been blaming that “offensive” video for the riots, the torchings, the embassy takeovers, and, finally, for the murder of Amb. Stevens and his three American colleagues.

It was an offensive video. But it’s interesting to consider the video the street protestors didn’t riot over. More than a year ago, the Israeli satirical group, Latma, produced this video.

The Israelis lampoon the Mullahs of Tehran and the flaccid response of this administration to the existential threat of Iran becoming a nuclear power. There were no recorded riots anywhere in what President Obama obligingly calls “the Muslim world” over this Israeli video.

Why not? Watch the video and note the caricature of the mullah. Note his smirking and mugging for the camera. Note, too, the burka-clad Iranian damsels and their come-hither batting of their eyes. Shouldn’t the Arab Street have rioted over that one?

They didn’t. And the reason they didn’t is because they knew it would do no good. The Israelis don’t quail. They don’t quiver. They don’t quake. And they never cringe.

That’s why they have the Obama administration . Contrast the Obama administration’s official spokespersons—Jay Carney and Victoria Nuland—with this defiant Israeli posture, as evidenced by the Latma video.

Day after day, Carney and Nuland come before the world press and grovel. There is virtually nothing that happens on the Arab Street that makes either of these capital cringers angry. For such a relentlessly pro-abortion administration, it is positively weird to see how often their spokespeople go into a fetal position.

We recall that President Obama went out to Osawatomie, Kansas, last year to channel the spirit of Theodore Roosevelt. Mr. Obama celebrated TR’s embrace of national health care in his famous New Nationalism speech of 100 years before. Many of us admirers of the first Roosevelt think that run-up to his Bull Moose candidacy in 1912 was the greatest error of TR’s life.

Still, Mr, Obama might have been inspired instead by Theodore Roosevelt’s reaction to the seizure of an American Consul in North Africa by Muslim kidnapers. It was 1904 and, like Obama, TR was running for re-election. The hostage-takers, led by a desert bandit called the Raisuli, demanded ransom for the captured American Consul, Ion Perdicaris.

President Roosevelt’s response was terse. “We want Perdicaris alive or the Raisuli dead.”

We got Perdicaris alive. And afterward, TR even won the Nobel Peace Prize. Those were the days when Peace through Strength still echoed throughout the world.

Mr. Obama claimed Amb. Stevens as a friend. Yet as the ambassador’s broken body was being flown home, the president did not convene an emergency meeting of his National Security Council. Instead, he flew to Las Vegas for a fund-raiser. We might say his actions were biblical: “Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child,
and your princes feast in the morning!” (Ecclesiastes 10:16)

President Obama’s Other Libya Scandal

Bob Morrison and Ken Blackwell
Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison, Contributing Authors: As presidential debaters clash over the meaning of a Rose Garden general reference to “acts of terror,” and whether that phrase was applied to the murder of our ambassador to Libya and three of his colleagues, and with a debate moderator throwing a “life line” to one of the candidates, it’s interesting to note something else said in the secure environs of the White House complex the bright morning after that night of flame and death in Benghazi.

It’s almost like Poe’s short story, The Purloined Letter. The critical evidence is in plain sight. The day after the murders of the Americans, President Obama promised to cooperate with our presumed friends in the new Libyan regime in Tripoli. Here’s what he said:The United States condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack. We're working with the government of Libya to secure our diplomats… And make no mistake, we will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people. ~ Rose Garden Statement, September 12, 2012The “make no mistake” phrase has been poll-tested, no doubt, to suggest the speaker is most resolute, most firm. In this context, however, the phrase is as vacuous as Bill Clinton’s definition of “is” is, or Joe Biden’s definition of “we.”

The candid world has already seen just how cooperative this new Libyan regime is. The New York Times inadvertently showed us the spots of this leopard in its story on the reported death of Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi back in May.Tripoli’s new leaders refused to return him. But, under international pressure, they signaled a willingness to get to the bottom of the Lockerbie case, still unresolved after nearly a quarter of a century of struggle among nations and investigations that spanned the globe, touching on Iranians, Syrians, Palestinians and Libyans. The NY Times then reported how Tripoli’s new rulers had declined to help the U.S. bring closure to the investigation into the bombing of PanAm 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988. Recall, these are rulers whom President Obama helped to put in power. For them, he ordered NATO airstrikes against the dictatorship of Col. Muammar Khaddafi. For them, he has requested another $250 million in foreign aid.

Suddenly, the man who was imprisoned in Scotland, but who later infamously was released from jail and flown home to a rapturous reception in Tripoli, has turned up dead. How convenient.

It is this same Libyan gang that President Obama says he will work with to get to the bottom of the murders in Benghazi. Don’t hold your breath. We’ve been waiting 24 years for the “international community” to bring to justice the killers of 270 passengers of the doomed jet liner and bystanders on the ground in Lockerbie. With the supposed death of Megrahi, we will probably count PanAm 103 as a cold case and not pursue it further.

Libya is a burning issue. The case of the PanAm jet that fell in flames from the skies cries out for justice. Why should we give a penny in aid to a so-called government in Tripoli that stonewalled our efforts to bring Megrahi to justice?

That same Tripoli government was duty-bound under international law to protect our diplomats and State Department employees. We saw on September 11th — of all days — how indifferent this Libyan bunch was to the safety of our American personnel.
“Working with the government of Libya to secure our diplomats” is one of the weakest excuses in history. We already know how much this Libyan regime cares about American lives.

They do care, of course, about another $250 million in American aid. Not a penny of that money should be given unconditionally to people who have already shown their indifference to human lives—ours and others.

The final presidential debate is scheduled for next week. Let us see whether CBS’ Bob Schieffer will raise this burning Libyan issue with the candidates.

Obama Demands Tax Hikes - Today's Washington Post reports that Barack Obama is threatening to veto legislation preventing Taxmageddon unless congressional Republicans agree to even more tax hikes.

In our recent special report on Obamacare, we noted how Barack Obama has broken his promise not to raises taxes on the middle class. The Supreme Court declared that Obamacare was legal only because it was a tax. Five new Obamacare tax increases take effect next year. And Obama is just getting started.

This is important, folks, because it is more proof of Obama's tax-and-spend socialism, and one more example of how Obama has repeatedly misled the American people. During Tuesday's debate, Obama blamed Republicans, saying, "Governor Romney's allies in Congress have held the [middle class] hostage because they want tax breaks for the top 2 percent."

According to the Washington Post it's Barack Obama who is holding the middle class hostage with his veto threat! Obama would rather see taxes go up on middle class families than allow small business owners and entrepreneurs to keep and invest their own money.

What Taxmageddon Means To You - On January 1, 2013, Taxmageddon -- the expiration of the Bush tax cuts -- hits America. According to a study from the Tax Policy Center, nearly 90% of households will see their taxes go up. Here's what it means to you:
  • Families will be hit hard as the per child tax credit is slashed from $1,000 to $500.
  • The average middle class family "will see an almost $2,000 tax hike."
  • Even low-income earners will pay more as the 10% tax rate goes up to 15%.
  • More than $500 billion will be sucked out of the economy by higher taxes next year, likely triggering another recession.
When it comes to keeping taxes low, whom do you trust more: Barack Obama or Mitt Romney?

Obama Spends $1 Trillion On Welfare - What exactly is Barack Obama going to do with more of your money? Pay down the debt? No. Under Obama annual deficits have doubled and the national debt has increased 50%.

Today brought the startling news that government spending on welfare programs has increased 32% since Obama was elected, and for the first time ever topped $1 trillion in a single year. That figure does not include spending on Social Security or Medicare.

My friends, it wasn't that long ago -- 1987 -- when $1 trillion funded the entire federal government. Today, $1 trillion barely pays for Obama's welfare spending.

Benghazi-gate Won't Go Away - Barack Obama's attempts to deny the facts about the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, won't make the controversy go away. Hours before Tuesday's presidential debate, Reuters published a report that undermines claims by Obama and Biden that they were unaware of the security situation in Libya. Consider this excerpt:
"In the months before the deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya, U.S. and allied intelligence agencies warned the White House and State Department repeatedly that the region was becoming an increasingly dangerous vortex for jihadist groups loosely linked or sympathetic to al Qaeda…

"So brazen was the Islamist presence in the Benghazi area that militants convened what they billed as the 'First Annual Conference of Supporters of Shariah (Islamic law)' in the city in early June, promoting the event on Islamist websites. … A research report prepared for a Pentagon counter-terrorism unit in August said the Benghazi conference brought together representatives of at least 15 Islamist militias. Among the paper's conclusions: these groups 'probably make up the bulk of al Qaeda's network in Libya.'"
Did you get that, folks? Al Qaeda militants were holding conferences in broad daylight, even advertising them! And this administration has the audacity to claim it had no idea there was any danger in Benghazi!

Radical Islam Still A Threat - A 21 year-old Bangladeshi man was arrested yesterday after he attempted to bomb the Federal Reserve building in Manhattan. He came to the U.S. in January on a student visa.

Does this mean we have a "Bangladeshi problem"? Of course not. The young man is a devoted follower of Osama bin Laden and a radical Islamist. Bin Laden may be dead, but the threat from radical Islam is still very alive.

Welfare Now the Largest Federal Expense

Republican Study Committee: A report from the independent Congressional Research Service reveals that welfare is now the single largest federal expense – greater than Social Security, Medicare, and national defense. Combined state & federal spending on 83 different welfare programs topped $1 trillion in FY 2011.

After half a century of waging a War on Poverty through this ever-expanding list of government programs, 46.2 million Americans still live in poverty according to the latest Census data.

Spending so much with so little effect is not fair to the poor or to taxpayers. The successful welfare reforms of 1996 – which dealt with just 1 of the 83 programs – should provide a model for making our efforts to aid the needy more effective and more affordable.

Members of the Republican Study Committee have proposed several solutions to reform “the rest” of welfare.
  • The State Health Flexibility Act deals with Medicaid & CHIP, which provide often substandard care at high cost. Using the 1996 model, the legislation provides states maximum flexibility to innovate and tailor to the needs of their unique populations while shifting federal funding from an entitlement formula to a stable block grant set at current spending levels.
  • The State Nutrition Assistance Flexibility Act deals with Food Stamps and 5 other food welfare programs in the Farm Bill. Also based on the 1996 reforms, it combines these 6 programs into a single block grant at 2008-levels, with maximum flexibility for states to improve their food welfare efforts. Programs under this block grant will be subject to strong work requirements for able-bodied adults.
  • The Welfare Reform Act of 2011 deals with the big picture. To better inform Americans about current programs, it requires the president to annually disclose total welfare expenditures as a separate budget category. Once unemployment falls below 6.5%, the legislation sets aggregate spending for this category at pre-recession levels, adjusted for inflation.
The RSC also operates an Anti-Poverty Initiative, an effort to find better ways of fighting poverty through the power of free enterprise and strong civic relationships.
