Info Post
Bill Smith, ARRA Editor: There are 59 members of the House Appropriations Committee. We think it is time to have at least one Committee member who doesn't take earmarks and who doesn't support pork-barrel spending. I am joining the efforts of Freedom Works to help get Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Arizona) on the Appropriations Committee for the 111th Congress. "With Roger Wicker being named a United States Senator, there is an opening on the Appropriations Committee for the U.S. House of Representatives. The Republicans get to fill the seat. The Republican leadership has a great opportunity to prove that it is serious about earmark reform and a conservative approach to spending. It's time to put some action behind their rhetoric.
"In four terms in Congress, Mr. Flake has never sought a special bridge, courthouse, parking lot, or teapot museum for his district. Republican leaders were so incensed at his role in exposing GOP earmarks in 2006 that they booted him off the Judiciary Committee." -- Wall Street Journal: The Anti-Appropriator, Jan. 8, 2008
You too can also join in the effort to place at Jeff Flake, one (1) congressman who has not taken an earmark, on the Appropriations Committee to speak for all of us. It is easy go to "Make It Flake" Campaign and pick from a list of options: adding your name to an Open letter to Minority Leader John Boehner, sending an email to the Republican leaders in Congress, calling the members of the GOP Steering Committee, and more. Do it today! ["Three groups spend other people's money: children, thieves, and politicians. All three need parental supervision.." -- Dick Armey]
