Democrat Senator Invokes Absurd Editorial On The Senate Floor To Malign 61% Of Americans Who Oppose The Health Bill
SEN. SHELDON WHITEHOUSE (D-RI): “Let's Look At What Current Observers Are Saying As A Possible Early Indicator Of The Judgment History Will Inflict. Recently, The Editor Of The Manchester Journal Inquirer Editorial Page Wrote Of The Current G.O.P. Which He Called ‘This Once Great And Now Mostly Shameful Party,’ That ‘It Has Gone Crazy, Is More And More Dominated By The Lunatic Fringe And Has Poisoned Itself With Hate.’ He Concluded, ‘They No Longer Want To Govern. They Want To Emote.’ A Well Regarded Philadelphia Columnist Recently Wrote Of The Conservative Paranoia And Lunacy On The Republican Right.” (Sen. Whitehouse, Floor Remarks, 12/20/09)

EVERY POLL SHOWS AMERICANS DON’T WANT THIS HEALTH CARE BILL
CNN: “Do You Generally Favor [The Senate Health Care Bill] Or Generally Oppose It? … Favor 36% Oppose 61%.” “As you may know, the U.S. Senate is considering a bill that would make major changes in the country's health care system. Based on what you have read or heard about that bill, do you generally favor it or generally oppose it? Dec. 2-3 2009 Favor 36% Oppose 61%.” (CNN Opinion Research Poll, 12/10/09)

NBC NEWS-WALL STREET JOURNAL POLL: “Just 32 Percent Say It's A Good Idea, Versus 47 Percent Who Say It's A Bad Idea.” “As the Senate sprints to pass a health-care bill by Christmas, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that those believing President Obama's health-reform plan is a good idea has sunk to its lowest level. Just 32 percent say it's a good idea, versus 47 percent who say it's a bad idea.” (“NBC Poll: Public Sours On Health Reform,” MSNBC’s “First Read,”, 12/16/09)

WASHINGTON POST-ABC NEWS POLL: “In The Poll Conducted This Month, 51 Percent Say They Oppose The Proposed Changes To The System; 44 Percent Approve Of Them. Two-thirds say the health-care reforms would add to the federal deficit, with two-thirds of those people calling such an increase ‘not worth it.’” (“Public Cooling To Health-Care Reform As Debate Drags On, Poll Finds,” The Washington Post, 12/16/09)

GALLUP: “Political Independents Are More Inclined To Oppose (49%) Than To Favor (44%) A New Healthcare Bill.” “As the U.S. Senate continues working to craft a filibuster-proof healthcare reform bill, a new USA Today/Gallup poll finds public support for such efforts still below the majority level. Forty-six percent of Americans say they would advise their member of Congress to vote for healthcare legislation (or lean toward doing so), while 48% would advise a no vote (or lean in that direction). Support had been at or above 50% in September and early October, but slumped to 43% by early November. … Political independents are more inclined to oppose (49%) than to favor (44%) a new healthcare bill.” (“Majority Of Americans Still Not Backing Healthcare Bill,” Gallup, 12/16/09)

AP-GFK POLL: “Although The National Debate Over Health Care Has Been Heated, There Was Little To No Change From November In The Public's Attitudes On The Proposals Being Discussed — 44 Percent Oppose Them While 36 Percent Support Them. And only half the country approves of Obama's handling of the issue.” (“AP-GfK Poll: Gains For Obama, Not His Afghan Plans,” The Associated Press, 12/17/09)

RASMUSSEN: “Fifty-Six Percent (56%) Of U.S. Voters Now Oppose The Health Care Plan Proposed By President Obama And Congressional Democrats. That’s the highest level of opposition found - reached three times before - in six months of polling. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 40% of voters favor the health care plan. Perhaps more significantly, 46% now Strongly Oppose the plan, compared to 19% who Strongly Favor it.” (“Health Care Reform,” Rasmussen Reports, 12/14/09)
