Info Post
Tony Perkins, FRC Washington Update: Later this week the House Education and Labor Committee will mark up the Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA). An original hearing was cancelled a few weeks ago over a dispute about whether to include "sexual identity" (transgender and transvestites) or to just include "sexual orientation." This "compromise" of only including "sexual orientation" is one that Congress is pushing and that the lesbian, gay, transgendered, bisexual movement greatly opposes. The result is the same - ENDA will lead to the end of religious liberty. Our Vice President of Government Affairs, Tom McClusky, had an op-ed on WorldNetDaily that highlights some of the problems Christians have faced in locales that have similar legislation on their books. Since his op-ed was published more stories keep coming in. Mike Heath of the Maine Christian Civic League forwarded a story this weekend from Orono, Maine of a 12-year-old boy who is now using the girl's restroom because he is confused over his "sexual identity." The grandfather of another student in the school complained; however, the school administration is supporting the troubled boy - and his actions appear to be protected under a 2005 Maine law that protects transgenderism. ENDA would make such violations of personal privacy a national affair.
