Congress Needs to Vote on a Commonsense Energy Plan

U.S. Rep. John Boozman (R-AR) voted no to adjournment on Thursday, just four days after the House convened after a five week vacation and majority leaders failed to hold an up-or-down vote on H.R. 6566 the “American Energy Act.” Rep. John Boozman said,

“The longer we wait to vote on a comprehensive energy plan, the more Arkansans are forced to stretch their dollar. It’s time that Congress act to bring relief to all Americans. With only ten legislative working days left until targeted adjournment, I’m making every effort to voice the concerns I’ve heard from Third District residents.

H.R. 6566, the ‘American Energy Act’ is an “all-of-the-above” approach for more conservation, more clean renewable and alternative fuels, and more production of American-made energy in environmentally sound ways. The need for sources of energy other than oil is apparent because Hurricane Ike is reaching shore in a matter of hours and forcing interruptions in the supply of gasoline to Arkansas. I encourage my colleagues in all political parties to support the ‘American Energy Act’ and I’m hopeful House majority leaders will respond to the concerns of the American people.

“Media reports show Nancy Pelosi plans to introduce energy legislation within the next two weeks. It is imperative language in the bill includes an ‘all-of-the-above’ approach so we use available American energy sources which includes the opportunity for drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf."

The ‘American Energy Act’ was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in July and is cosponsored by Boozman.
