Today in Washington D. C. - Sept 11, 2008

There won’t be much in the way of politics today in the U.S. Capitol as both sides of the aisle pause to remember those killed seven years ago today in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flights 11, 175, 77, and 93.
There will be a congressional ceremony at the West Front of the Capitol at 11:45 AM. At 12:30 PM, there will be a moment of silence to remember the victims of 9/11. A memorial in remembrance of September 11, 2001 will be dedicated at the Pentagon later today.

The Senate reconvenes at 10:30 AM today and will resume consideration of the Defense authorization bill (S. 3001). Yesterday, the Senate rejected an amendment to the Defense authorization bill by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) to boost missile defense funding by $271 million. Senators approved an amendment by Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) to repeal an offset which reduced survivor benefits for people receiving both DoD and VA benefits.
