From Our Archives: The Meaning of Thanksgiving:
The documents below clearly show the meaning of Thanksgiving as intended by the nation's Founders. Today in most public schools God is not mentioned and Thanksgiving becomes a historical event rather than a Christian celebration of thanks to God. Observation: Although he historically recalls "President George Washington, who proclaimed our first national day of public thanksgiving to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God,” our new "politically correct" "post-American" President, unlike former Presidents, does not mention being that we should be grateful to God!
