Info Post
On Friday, Arizona rejoined Vermont in the right to carry openly or concealed. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s signed a new “Constitutional Carry” firearm law. Since 1912, Arizona adults not convicted of felonies have always been allowed to carry sidearms openly. The right to have a concealed weapon was added in 1994. Now, individuals will be able to carry concealed weapons without permits or red tape. The permit system remains in place with certain restrictions like carrying concealed in a bar but otherwise concealed permits will no longer be required to carry. While self defense is protected, the new law makes makes concealed carry in the commission of a serious crime a felony. To address police opposition, language was inserted in the law to require anyone stopped by a police officer to disclose whether he or she is carrying a concealed weapon and to take temporary possession of the gun while the person is being questioned.
