There were no issues to rally around, and voters rejected Republicans who didn’t stand on principle. That same funk has continued into the 2008 presidential race. No Republican currently in the race has managed to excite the conservative base, and with the Democrats energized to regain the White House, the Republican Party definitely needs a spark.
