Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families: Yesterday was Holocaust Remembrance Day. All over Israel, the country came to a standstill for two mournful minutes as air raid sirens marked the murder of six million Jews who died in the Nazi Holocaust. Here in Washington, visitors crowded into the Holocaust Memorial Museum while politicians here and in Europe released statements expressing their commitment to making sure such a horror never happens again.But, in fact, a second holocaust looms on the horizon. In increasingly Islamic Europe, attacks on Jews by skin heads and “jihadist wanna-bes” continue to grow. And in Tehran, the Shiite fundamentalist and Hitler admirer Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continues to march toward the production of nuclear weapons while he tells cheering mobs to imagine a new world without Israel and America – a world he promises is coming soon.
At 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue our new president appears clueless. His foreign policy to date has been one long apology tour – first in Europe, then the Middle East and last week in Latin America. But the more he apologizes, the more the thugs of the world can’t believe their good fortune. Last year, Iran, Syria, North Korea and their assorted allies were dealing with a president who understood good and evil, history and America’s role in the world. This year, they are dealing with a president who thinks he needs to be really tough on browbeating Israel into making more concessions for peace.
While the occupants of the White House change, the White House usually changes its occupant’s views on foreign policy. There is a reality about the nature of the world that presidents find difficult to ignore. But so far President Obama still acts as if his major goal is to please the radical Left of American politics and appease the enemies of freedom. If he doesn’t wake up, great horror lies ahead for us, for Israel and for free men everywhere.
