Video Activism with James O'Keefe: Telling the Real Story - June 16, 10:30-11:30AM
Learn to capture the real story that the mainstream media won't cover by using the power of live video footage. James O'Keefe will show how you can expose waste, fraud, and abuse in the government by producing hard video evidence that even the biased media can't spin. One of James's most famous investigations was of the taxpayer-funded institution, ACORN, where he exposed the corruption and malfeasance within the organization which ultimately led to its defunding.

Information Activism: How Citizen Journalism is Changing the Political Landscape - June 16, 11:45AM-12:45PM
Whether through bias, or lack of resources, the establishment media has fallen down on the job and is not aggressively pursuing the stories taxpayers deserve to know about. At the same time, the advent of the internet, combined with unprecedented levels of citizen engagement, have flipped the paradigm and empowered the public to step-in -- spawning a Citizen Journalism revolution that has had a profound impact on our political and public policy systems. Learn how you can get involved and make a difference as an Information Activist in your local community.

Investigative Reporting: Skills & Tools for Citizens - June 16, 2:15-3:15PM
Learn to think like an investigative reporter, identify potential leads and expose backdoor deals at the state and local levels. Find out where to look for waste, fraud, abuse, and who to interview to get the real story that will make an impact and force change. You will find out how to access and research FBI files, Federal agency records, campaign contributions, and union disclosure amounts from the Department of Labor.

Citizen Driven State and Local Coverage: The Crisis and Opportunity in Journalism - June 16, 3:30-4:30PM
Of the 60,000 print journalists employed in 2001, at least 10,000 have seen their jobs eliminated. An American Journalism Review study found in early 2009 that the number of full-time newspaper reporters covering statehouses across the nation dropped by 32% in six years. It is imperative that we as citizens step up to fill this void, working to see that news is reported from a taxpayer's perspective and holds elected officials accountable.
