Info Post
Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families: As I noted last week, we are beginning to see some of the real world problems with President Obama’s promise to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. As a result of that decision, the government recently dropped charges against the terrorist accused of masterminding the 2000 suicide bomb attack against the U.S.S. Cole that killed 17 American sailors.

The former commander of the Cole and some family members of the victims met with President Obama at the White House Friday. Some family members boycotted the White House event in disgust. One such individual was Dianne McDaniels, a black American, who voted for Obama, but now says, “I’m disappointed. He’s only been in office for not even a month and now this is what he’s doing? I’m very disillusioned with him.” She’s not alone. You can watch her interview on Fox News here.

Here’s another problem: Where do we put these thugs once GITMO is closed? The administration has been thinking hard about sending some of them back to their home countries. Nearly half of the remaining GITMO detainees are from Yemen, so that nation is high on the administration’s list for obvious reasons.

But this weekend, Yemen announced that it has released 170 suspected Al Qaeda terrorists and sympathizers it had been holding in exchange for signed pledges swearing off terrorism. What government would be so naïve that it would release terrorists on their own recognizance? Maybe our own if Obama follows through on his plans to shut down GITMO and send these thugs to Yemen.
