Cornyn said he has no idea who or why a false statement was leaked to the media last night saying the NRSC would not be backing O'Donnell, and that he is issuing his statement of support through multiple media channels today. He reminded Republicans that the NRSC is fully supporting other "non-Establishment" GOP nominees such as Sharron Angle in Nevada and Joe Miller in Alaska and that O'Donnell will also be fully supported.
O'Donnell, who was endorsed by RNC for Life in the Primary as 100% pro-life, scored an upset victory Tuesday in the Delaware race against the most liberal Republican member of Congress, Mike Castle, Delaware's only Congressman who also was seeking the Republican nomination for the open Senate seat. She also was endorsed by Sen. Jim DeMint, Sarah Palin and the TEA Party movement. This grassroots support, coupled with growing citizen discontent with Washington insiders (such as Castle) powered her to a 53% - 47% victory yesterday.
In this apparently Republican year, one can expect many dirty tricks on the part of the Democrats. Divide and conquer is the oldest political strategy so perhaps it was a Democrat who "leaked" that false rumor! Let's remember that we need to be united in November to hand this huge national defeat to the Democrats.
