"Medical Marijuana" is a Scam

Letter To The Editor, by Jeanette McDougal: In response to the 1/13/11 The Arkansas Democrat article, “Group hopes ‘pot’ passes smoke test:” The article's title is telling. What approved medicine is “smoked?” Thee key facts about “medical marijuana.”

1. “Medical marijuana” is not medical at all. We are speaking about toxic, tar-laden marijuana cigarettes, bowls, bongs and brownies – used by sick people whose maladies are only made worse by inhaling or ingesting unproved “medications” containing carcinogens and other “untargeted” toxins.⁽¹⁾ (Chemo-therapy drugs contain toxins but are targeted to a specific purpose.) A pharmaceutical drug called Marinol has been available for treatment of nausea by legal prescription since 1985.

2. Marijuana will not cure anything. Not a single scientific study would support a claim of cure.

3. The marijuana cigarettes as medicine issue is part of a well-orchestrated, well-funded movement to legalize marijuana. As long ago as 1979, NORML Chairman Keith Stroup remarked at Emory University, “We are trying to get marijuana reclassified medically….we’ll be using the issue as a red herring to give marijuana a good name.”⁽²⁾

This well-funded legalization effort has been largely financed by – who else – George Soros, Peter Lewis, and John Sperling,⁽³⁾ multi-millionaires who have been buying public policy for over a decade. The first California and Arizona “Medical Marijuana” initiatives (1996) were financed by these three. (George Soros alone contributed $15 million to legalize drugs between 1993 and 1996.) Soros’ money also helps fund L.E.A.P.

We need to be wary of the “medical marijuana” scam and demand that marijuana cigarettes, bowls, bongs and brownie “remedies” go through the FDA process, like any other drug, before being considered a “medicine.”
