Phyllis Schlafly
by Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum: Chris Christie might not care about the platform, but no one can deny the importance of 50 state parties sending representatives to affirm the principles defining what it means to be a Republican. "This year's platform is spectacular.  We got everything we wanted on the key issues we care about: life, marriage, foreign policy, military culture and immigration," says Phyllis Schlafly.

"Throughout the Platform Committee meetings, I spoke with several conservative delegates who said that Eagle Forum's efforts to organize and mobilize delegates were once again invaluable in securing solid conservative language." In the full committee hearing, broadcast on C-SPAN, two amendments to strike out the strong marriage plank were defeated by an overwhelming margin, by voice vote. Sharee Langenstein, Illinois Delegate and Eagle Forum National Chairman for Religious Liberty put forth this wonderful amendment, which was adopted by the platform committee: "Through ObamaCare, the Obama Administration has promoted the notion of abortion as healthcare. We, however, affirm the dignity of women by protecting the sanctity of human life. Numerous studies have shown that abortion endangers the health and well-being of women, and we stand firmly against it."

The Center for Military Readiness, issuing a statement on behalf of the Military Culture Coalition, touted how the platform committee adopted "strong planks reaffirming support for military veterans and principles of 'Peace Through Strength,'" and how Republicans are laying the groundwork for repairing the damage on a wide range of military/social issues."
