Debbie Pelly, WPAAG: Sen. Kennedy's "hate crimes" plan – feared by Christian leaders as a way to censor biblical condemnations of homosexuality – has been proposed as an amendment to a defense spending bill , (probably to be voted on this week and maybe as early as tomorrow). Kennedy knows that Bush promised to veto the hate crime bill; and he knows Bush has to have the funding for the military. To hold our young men in battle hostage to a hate crimes bill that offers special privileges to homosexuals is indeed an outrage.

Lest you think the 25 reasons below are a stretch, note that A ruling from
the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has concluded that municipal employers have the right to censor the words "natural family," "marriage" and "family values" because that is hate speech and could scare workers. And as the Wall Street Journal said in their article decrying hate crime laws, "Like all restrictions on free speech, bans of "racist" or "homophobic" expression rests on a slippery slope. Some Christian denominations believe that homosexuality is a sin. Are their clerics to be silenced by law because this view is unacceptable.

Dr. Robert Gordon's 25 Reasons to Oppose Hate Crime Legislation is detailed in a TVC Special Report: Hate Crime Legislation: Unequal Treatment Under the Law. Dr. Robert Gordon's: 25 Reasons are also referenced in an article on the WPAAG.org website. Contact your senators! Contact your representatives!
