From Senate sources: As eyes turn to FISA legislation, Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) said he plans to put a hold on the Senate version of the bill because of a provision that would give telecom companies legal immunity for cooperating with the NSA.
-Roll Call reports this morning that Democrats have come up with a plan to send appropriations bills to the president. Instead of sending the Homeland Security or Defense appropriations bills, they have decided to wait until the Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill is complete and then challenge President Bush’s veto threat in much the same way as they have over the SCHIP program.
- A provisions in the Labor-HHS bill which would cut funding to the Office of Labor-Management Standards. Senate Democrats voted to retain the provision last week. In today’s DC Examiner, Richard Berman of the Center for Union facts discusses the OLMS cuts.

On The Floor: The Senate reconvenes at 2 PM today. The Senate will resume consideration of the fiscal 2008 Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill (H.R. 3043). A series of votes on amendments is expected around 5:30 PM today. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pusing to complete work on the bill by Tuesday. President Bush has vowed to veto the bill, which is $9.6 BILLION above his request. Reid identified that he hopes to move to the farm bill soon which is still being negotiated.
