Secure Arkansas: (Little Rock – April 17, 2008) The grassroots organization, Secure Arkansas, resubmitted an initiated act regarding illegal immigration to the Arkansas Attorney General for language review and approval on April 16, 2008. The act concerns federal, state and local public benefits currently provided to illegal aliens in Arkansas. Changes from the original version of the initiative, submitted on March 26, 2008, are in the areas of expanded definitions and additional legal references. The original intent of the initiative has not changed.

"I am amazed at the outpouring of support for Secure Arkansas and its goal of getting this initiated act on the ballot," said Jeannie Burlsworth, Chair of Secure Arkansas. "People across the state want to stop seeing their state tax dollars going to pay for the benefits of those illegally in this country." She went on to say, "We expect Attorney General Dustin McDaniel to quickly render his opinion, which should be to certify this measure because people in Arkansas deserve a chance to vote on this important issue."
