Jim Davis, a longtime Pulaski County Republican Committee member and defender of small business, recently published a guest column in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette critiquing the Democratic Congress's plan to raise taxes on energy companies. Davis points out that the tax hike would drive up costs for small business owners. Davis writes: "Small business owners don't ask for a helping hand from the federal government. Unlike many larger concerns, they are not the recipients of corporate welfare. They can't afford to retain expensive lobbyists in Washington like big corporations. Instead, they merely ask that they be left alone to do what they do best: create jobs, serve customers and live the American dream. Why must Congress insist on standing in their way?"
