Info Post
by Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families: Fort Huachuca in Arizona is our nation's largest intelligence training center, housing 12,000 personnel and military families. It would be a prime target for the Islamists who have declared war on us. If recent reports are true, an attack on the base has indeed been planned by terrorists working with Mexican drug cartels. According to an article today in the Washington Times, U.S. intelligence has several sources pointing to a plot that would smuggle as many as 60 Afghan and Iraqi terrorists into the U.S. through underground tunnels at the Mexican border. The hit squad would be armed with anti-tank missiles, Soviet made surface-to-air missiles and grenade launchers as well as other weapons. The reports obtained by the Times suggest that some of the terrorists are already in the country and are living in "safe houses" in Texas.

As you can imagine, federal officials are refusing to confirm details of the plot or even acknowledge its existence. But a spokesman for Fort Huachuca acknowledged the plot and admitted that security arrangements at the base have been altered in recent months to make the base more secure. Several other plots by Islamofascists to attack U.S. military facilities within the United States have been broken up over the last year. Such an attack would be a propaganda coup for our enemy, one that could be exploited around the world and used as a recruiting tool to bring more young Islamofascists into the terrorist ranks. It is also a stark reminder that the next president better be prepared to deal with potential threats virtually unimaginable just a few years ago.
