Info Post
by Steve Robertson, Director Legislative Commission, American Legion: The US Senate is again bringing up S. 1639, the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill” which could grant Amnesty to the 12 to 20 million people currently in the country illegally. The American Legion adamantly opposes any measures that sanction or condone coming to this country in any manner other than stipulated by existing law, whether disguised as “undocumented workers,” “guest-worker programs” or similarly worded amnesties. This is your last chance to be heard on this issue! For access to The American Legion’s official positions, click here

It takes 60 votes to invoke cloture on this bill, but only 50 to pass the bill, so the best chance to derail this bill is on the cloture vote which could transpire as early as today. Call your Senators at (202) 224-3121 and voice your concerns and urge a “No” vote on cloture.
Note: The American Legion represents 3 million members -- men and women -- in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide. In addition, the American Legion Auxillary has nearly 1 million members. Together these 4 million veterans and auxillary members do not represent a vocal minority but a majority. Join them and their families and friends to Stop Amnesty Now! Call your Senator! We should seek English language initiatives and promote good citizenship through naturalization classes for "legal" immigrants.
