From Senate sources: Tomorrow, the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on the nomination of Judge Michael Mukasey to be attorney general. Democrat Senators Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein have said they will support Mukasey.
Later in the week, the Senate could also take up the conference report on the Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill (H.R. 3043), which now includes the Military Construction-VA appropriations bill (H.R. 2642). Republican Senators have called for a stand-alone VA funding bill to be sent to the president, who has threatened to veto the combination bill. Democrats continue to demonstrate their disarray and mismanagement on funding for the troops and on how to handle spending bills. It has been 20 years since Congress has taken this long to send even one spending bill to the president, yet Democrats persist is sending bills that they know will get vetoed.
On The Floor: Senate reconvenes at 2 PM today. Senate will take up the Farm Bill (H.R. 2419). Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said he would like to finish work on the $283 billion bill in a week but could make no guarantees about a time frame.
